Mumbai Indians registered first win in DLF IPL

Hi friends, Good morning and have a nice cool day!!!!

The match 16th of DLF IPL T20 was a close one and it was between the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians. Ganguly (Prince of Kolkata) won the toss and preferred to bat first. The Knight Riders soon lost 5 wickets in quick succession due to tight bowling by Mumbai Indians. Thanks to Shaun Pollock, Bravo, Sanath Jayasuriya and D Kulkarni for bowling very tight line and length.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla blasted a superb 40 runs in 20 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes) and helped the Knight Riders to reach a respectable target of 137 in 20 overs. He was awarded the DLF maximum sixes but the organizers did a small mistake by announcing S Jayasuriya as winner before announcing Shukla. Ponting, Ganguly, Mc Cullum and David Hussey were not able to score quickly in the top of the batting order. Debabrata Das played a promising knock 29 runs in 20 balls (5 fours and 1 six) but he was not able to make this knock a big one.

Mumbai Indians started the innings with Jayasuriya and Ajinkya Rahane but Rahane was out after scoring just 4 runs. Jayasuriya played a brisk knock of 18 in just 10 balls (3 fours & 1 six). But he was soon dismissed by tall and fast bowler Ishant Sharma and Manish Pandey got out for duck in the next over under the bowling of Ashok Dinda, who bowled a superb line to Pandey in his first over. Mumbai Indians were in danger of batting collapse but Robin Uttappa and Dwayne Bravo steadied the innings with a match winning partnership.

Bravo blasted 64 in just 53 balls (8 fours and 1 six) and Uttappa came up with 37 runs in just 37 balls. The spinners of Knight Riders were disappointing in this match and Kartik & Hafeez bowled very badly in this match. I felt that Knight Riders were playing only with 3 specialist bowlers and they were Ishant Sharma, Ajit Agarkar and Ashok Dinda. The other 4 bowlers were Ganguly, Shukla, Kartik and Hafeez who were not at all impressive in this match. Mumbai Indians chased the target very comfortably in 18.4 overs and Jayasuriya was declared the Man of the Match for his spell of 4-1-14-3(overs-maidens-runs given-wickets) and quick 18 runs while batting.

Finally, I am happy that Mumbai Indians’ pull of a victory and in the next match Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar will be playing. This is perfect boost for the Mumbai Indians and Knight Riders team need to look into their batting and come up with good strategy in the next match. Tomorrow match 17 will be between the Delhi Dare Devils vs Bangalore Royal Challengers in Delhi. Both the teams lost their last matches. That’s all for now

With lots of Love,

Madhu Vamsi…..
